Nobody can really do it all…but we know you’re going to try anyway!
Here are a few tips to get the most out of your time:
1. Catalyst Consumption
You may have guessed this would be first on our list! Don’t worry. We’ll keep it simple. The secret to brain boosting? Antioxidants. Powerhouse snacks like blueberries, pumpkin seeds, nuts, and oranges (or any other fruit high in vitamin C) will keep free radicals from disrupting communication between brain cells and keep your mind clear and ready to tackle that to-do list.
2. Snuggle Up
Sticking to a regular sleep schedule is imperative for optimal brain function. We already know this, right? Set a schedule that makes sense, but shoot for the ideal 7–9 hours each night within the same time frame. Fighting through the bad habit of staying up late is no small feat, but it’s not impossible and the benefits are beyond worth it. A helpful tip: light of any kind, but particularly blue light interrupts the production of melatonin, so one of the most effective ways to tuck yourself in is to turn off all screens and either read a book or listen to relaxing instrumental music.
3. Defeat Distractions
“Unfortunately, our brains are finely attuned to distraction and even the briefest ones have the power to decrease our productivity,” a recent study published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology suggests.
While we can’t completely eliminate distractions from our daily grind, we can certainly get control over the many small vices that add up to a lot of lost time. Set specific times throughout your day to check social media and email. Disable notifications on your phone, silence it altogether or, whenever possible, put it down until you really need it again. Focus, clarity and creativity thrive when we’re not pulled this way and that during important projects.
4. Just Breathe
Get outside! Research shows that only a half hour spent outdoors results in a 45% increase in productivity. Fresh air is proven to decrease stress and, in effect, boost our mood. Especially on darker days and as the weather turns, getting outside for fresh air will help make up for that lack of light and keep you energized.
5. Tech Tricks
Plenty of tools are right at our fingertips to help increase organization and reduce miscommunication. Keep your notes all in one place, clarify your messaging in emails, and reach your goals by taking advantage of any number of useful apps. Check them out and use what works best for you!
